NAMAH Ensemble
Dance. Theater. Music
Mission
NAMAH is a non-profit performing arts company that presents contemporary Iranian and world dance, music and theater through public performances, educational outreach programs, and community events that aim to foster an understanding about Iran’s sociopolitical and cultural heritage, alongside other societies that have grappled with significant sociopolitical turbulence, with the goal of promoting critical thinking and awareness.
In the pre-Sanskrit language of Avesta, NAMAH means reverence and greeting. Banafsheh and dancer, Irene Masharo established NAMAH with the aim to express the ancient within the contemporary, and the sacred within dance theater.
Since 1994, under Artistic Director, Banafsheh Sayyad, NAMAH has created an exciting body of work built on innovative movement vocabulary, rigorous dance technique and the powerful exploration of ancient mysticism. NAMAH has toured annually throughout North America, Europe and Australia since 2000.
NAMAH has performed at prestigious venues and
international festivals.
